First Steps in Science

XI Regional Scientific Student Conference “The Actual Issues of Communication and Professional Competence: Linguistic and Socio-Cultural Aspects” was held on November 10, 2016 at Poltava University of Economics and Trade. It was organized by the Department of Business Foreign Language. The working languages of the conference were English, German, Russian and Ukrainian.

The aim of the conference was to discuss the linguistic and cultural aspects of doing business, important economic and political issues of the present, basic strategies and directions of the development of the economy; demonstrate the ways of using foreign languages in their future careers.

The conference provided the maximum opportunity for students to present the results of their research; improve communication skills and knowledge of foreign languages, convincingly present their reports; use a foreign language as a tool for professional networking, sharing knowledge and experience; discuss issues on enhancing the learning of foreign languages as a condition for increasing graduates competitiveness in modern highly competitive global environment.

The conference participants were welcomed by the Vice-Rector Dr. Sc. Garkusha S.V.

82 speakers represented PUET students, students of Poltava V. G. Korolenko National Pedagogical University, Poltava National Technical Yuri Kondratyuk University and pupils of school № 4 (Horishni Plavni) and school № 5 (Poltava). The discussion involved 178 students.

The urgent problems of our time, namely the prospects of Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the way to success in a multinational environment, the advantages and disadvantages of the global economy, the problem of unemployment in Ukraine, business ethics, development of Eurosystem in the context of globalization, the model of a modern executive, effective use of information technology in business and management, global issues of our time, the impact of World Bank programs on the country’s economic situation, the issue of political reform in Ukraine and others.

A University book of abstracts including 73 students’ works was published.
