LEARNING HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF POLTAVA
On April 5, 2018, a traditional study trip for foreign students coming to take the foundation course at Poltava University of Economics and Trade (PUET) from Azerbaijan, Nigeria, Pakistan, Ghana, Guinea, Morocco, Liberia, Swaziland, Yemen, Gambia, Turkey, Sudan, Jordan, Gambia, Sierra Leone and other countries took place.
The excursion for foreign students was conducted in English and Russian by Ukrainian university students studying Tourism and Management (Groups T-11, T-22, T-32, and MEN-11); it was a good experience for them to apply their knowledge and English language skills in practice.
The tour around the city began near the academic building of PUET where foreign students learned about the main historical events that took place in Poltava. This time the tour has coincided with the traditional children’s festival of compositions The Easter Pisanka at Teatralna Square, so the students were able to learn the culture and customs of the Ukrainian people by examining children’s works devoted to Easter celebration. Foreign students saw around the Poltava Museum of Local Lore having left their warm impressions about it in the Museum’s Book of Reviews. They also visited the Memorial Estate of Ivan Kotlyarevsky, listened to the Ukrainian poetry of Taras Shevchenko, and got acquainted with the historical center of the city and its cultural attractions.
Both Ukrainian and foreign students received a lot of warm and positive emotions from the tour, as they could communicate with each other in a relaxed atmosphere and enrich their knowledge about customs and traditions of different countries.
