Opening of the Poltava regional school of leaders of student self-government in PUET

The third season of the Poltava Regional School of Leaders of Student Self-Government was opened at Poltava University of Economics and Trade. The initiators of the project, created three years ago, aimed to form in young people the knowledge and skills that they will need in life in the future, will help unleash their leadership potential. Due to the epidemic danger, the opening of the school of leaders was held in a remote format.

The project involves all interested students from schools in Poltava region who have registered online. The organizers say: every year the number of participants grows. If in the first season out of more than two hundred students 117 students were selected to participate, this year more than 400 applications were sent, from which 265 participants were selected. Actually, the project itself provides for two forms of work.

Svetlana Nestulya, project initiator, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Leadership:

“The first form of work is trainings on locations for senior classes: 8, 9, 10, 11 classes. And the second form of work is to study the distance course that we offered them and joined them to our local center. Thanks to logins and passwords, they can enter a distance course and process materials”.

Over the next year, participants of the Poltava Regional School of Student Self-Government Leaders will master a distance course that includes seven topics, including: “My leadership potential”, “Leader traits”, “Leadership styles”, “Leader and team”. Students will work on one topic each month, after which they have to present it in a creative way to peers, teachers or parents. The ultimate goal is the formation of communication, creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to work in a team, says the initiator of the project Svetlana Nestulya, and gives an example of the first season.

Svetlana Nestulya, project initiator, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Leadership:

“The girl came to report and was silent for a long time, she says: I’m an introvert, and I’m very afraid to speak in front of an audience, but I’m grateful to the project, you can’t even imagine what it revealed to me. I’m an artist, I paint. And when I took part in the project, I wanted to see for myself if it could help me. I can’t speak well, but thanks to the project I organized a small school, I talk about art, I teach my peers the elements of creativity that I have.”

But the rector of Poltava University of Economics and Trade Oleksiy Nestulya, first of all, thanked the school principals who are not afraid to cultivate leadership qualities in students.

– It is not always easy with leaders, they are the initiators of something unusual, they are restless, but sometimes some of the teachers like when everything is calm in the classroom, there are no unnecessary words and movements. Dear colleagues, I am very grateful to you for training students as leaders of their own lives, leaders of their territorial communities, leaders of Ukraine.

Within the framework of the project, 4 field trainings at the locations in Poltava and the region are provided for the participants of the Poltava Regional School of Leaders of Student Self-Government. Students will perform theoretical and practical tasks, make reports, create their own projects. And the technical opportunity to work remotely is provided by Poltava University of Economics and Trade.
