The Scientists from PUET was attended the Global Conference of the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) of the development of wine tourism

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in collaboration with the Georgian National Tourism Administration, organized the 1st UNWTO Global Conference on Wine Tourism, which was held in the Kakheti wine region of Georgia on 7-9 September 2016 and in which was attended by Associate Professor of Management, Director of “Georgian cultural and educational center PUET» PhD, Assoc. Yanina Barybina.

During two days (7-9 September) the event convened over 200 participants including policy makers and tourism experts from nearly 50 countries. 

In the last decade, wine tourism has become a key component of gastronomy tourism and a pillar in the strategies of diversification of many destinations. The event was a unique opportunity to discover the richness of local Georgian culture and to exchange innovative ideas to promote wine tourism between destinations already experienced in wine tourism with others with a high potential in that segment. Ministries, Destination Management Organizations (DMOS) and National Tourism Organizations (NTOs), universities, tour operators and wine professionals were among the participants.


Working sessions were held in Tbilisi and Kakheti – the main vineyard region of Georgia. A reception was held in the tourist complex “Gvirabi at the highest level. It was very nice to meet Alexander Khvedelidze master in Hotel and Restaurant Business PUET alumni 2013. We are proud that he is holding a position of director of the most popular restaurant of Kahetia “Hareba” now. Alexander expressed his gratitude to the teachers for very valuable knowledge gained during his study in PUET.

During the working sessions speakers repeatedly emphasized the need for training qualified specialists in tourism and gastronomy.
